SILK lanterns in vibrant purples, reds and golds will twinkle in the twilight along Nelson Bay's foreshore on Saturday.

The Christmas Lantern Festival, organised by the Port-based events business The
Bayview Group, is a free event suitable for all ages.

It will include a children's lantern making workshop at 10am and free entertainment
all day until 8.30pm.

The Bayview Group's Marian Sampson said the event was the perfect time to get into the Christmas spirit.

"You can enjoy a day at the Bay, grab some Christmas bargains at the Christmas Lantern Festival that family and friends are sure to love and have a great day out with the family," she said.

The festival was inspired by Mrs Sampson's recent trip to Cambodia.

Silk lanterns coloured purple, red, gold, turquoise and orange will gently sway in the breeze along the foreshore while visitors shop the market or enjoy the live entertainment.

There will be a range of boutique stalls with handcrafted goods available, plus others featuring unique gifts, candles, fairy floss and fashion.

Mrs Sampson said the aim of the festival was to create a positive family vibe along the beautiful foreshore. To find out more visit
